A glacier is a large, gravity-driven mass of ice. Snow accumulates over time and compresses into a thickened large mass of ice, which is how glaciers are formed. India is home to a sizable number of glaciers. According to a research conducted by the Space Applications Centre of the Indian Space Research Organization, India has 16,627 glaciers (ISRO). Some of the most well-known glaciers in the world may be found in the Himalayan area. The tallest glacier in India is also located in this area.In contrast to bodies of water, glaciers only develop on land. Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and the Union Territory of Ladakh are home to the bulk of India's glaciers. There are a few glaciers in Arunachal Pradesh. Some of these glaciers have the length of hundreds of kilometres, while others are the size of football fields.
